A Season of Prayer - Devotional Series Introduction

Each of the four seasons has its particular characteristics: either heat or cold, rain or drought, short days or long ones. God has given us seasons so that the plants might grow, for variety in our experience, and to help us mark our lives. We also have spiritual seasons in our lives. Some times are full of refreshment; others are dry and lonely. In some seasons God’s presence is vivid and real; in others it may seem more distant. The spiritual life also has a cadence and rhythm to it.

On occasion, we ought to especially give ourselves to prayer. The world is ever upon us. It demands our energy and attention. In the hustle of life’s activities, prayer sometimes gets pushed aside. For that reason, on occasion, we ought to give special attention to prayer so that its power and reality does not diminish in our lives. We also need to pray for the world in which we live, that the gospel will be heard, understood, and obeyed.

This September, as a congregation, we invite you to a season of prayer. We invite you to renew your relationship with God, call upon him for help, and pray that his work might be furthered in your family and the world.

For the month of September, we have special devotional readings designed to lead you to prayer for yourself, your family, our community, those with special needs, our church, and the world. There are twenty-one readings, one for each weekday during the month. Use these daily readings as a guide. Over the course of the month, we will pray for a number of important things, consider some important scriptures, and come before God as a congregation with our various concerns.

Let’s seek God together. Let’s turn our hearts toward him. Join me in a season of prayer in order to know God better, draw close to him, and allow Christ himself, through the Holy Spirit, to live more fully in our hearts, our families, our church, and our world.
