New Year, New Hope: 10 Inspiring Bible Verses for Reflection & Strength

The scriptures give us comfort, guidance, and courage. As we start the new year, I thought I might share some verses for reflection.

“Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert” (Isaiah 43:18, 19). This reminds us that God is always doing something new. He invites us to leave behind past disappointments and embrace what he has in store for us.

“Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13, 14). This is a powerful call to strive toward whatever God calls us to do with enthusiasm.

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22, 23). Each new day is alive with God’s grace and offers hope for a fresh start at any moment.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11). God has a good plan for our lives. We should have faith that God has good in store for us.

“So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12). This is a reminder to make the most of each day, since we are only given a certain number of them. We should strive to be faithful and useful in each day.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths” (Proverbs 3: 5, 6). If we trust God with our plans and decisions, he will guide us in them.

“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31). When we place our hope in God, he renews our strength for the challenges we face.

“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble” (Matthew 6:34). It is good to focus on the present moment and not be consumed with worry about the future. God will help us with our responsibilities each day.

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Christ is greater and stronger than any challenge we will face.

“Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you” (I Peter 5:7). We can take everything to God because he is our gracious Father in heaven.

Let us live with faith that God will be with us this year, do something good in our lives, and make us fruitful for the work of his kingdom.
